Dr. John Stroube

John Stroube is a graduate of Bowling Green (Kentucky) High School. He has a Bachelor of Music from Western Kentucky University and a Master of Science in Music Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He taught for eleven years in Illinois, then became the Director of Bands for the Murray Independent Schools from 1988 through 2001. In 2004 he was awarded a D.M.A. in conducting and pedagogy from the University of Southern Mississippi, following which he was the interim Assistant Director of Bands at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He now serves as the Executive Director of the Kentucky Music Educators Association, and from 2018–2023 he served as the artistic director for the Great American Brass Band Festival of Danville, Kentucky. In 2017–2018 the Western Kentucky University Department of Music selected Dr. Stroube as an inductee for its Wall of Fame, which recognizes achievement in the field of music. In 2022, the National Association for Music Education recognized him as a Lowell Mason Fellow to acknowledge his contributions to music education.
